Jadavpur Subcentre came into existence in December, 2002 though activity of
FOSET in Jadavpur started way back in 1988 through organisation of
Technology Fair : Rural Tech-88 jointly with J.U. Science Club. Following that
there have been number of seminars, meetings in Jadavpur in last two
decades. Also scientists from various Institutes like Jadavpur University, LACS,
CGCRI took part in different central programmes as resource persons. Finally
the formal inauguration of the subcentre was done by Dr. Amiya Bagchi and Dr.
H. S. Maiti on 5th December 2002 in presence of more than hundred scientists,
technologists and academicians.
Since then the subcentre took leading role in propagating ‘Peoples’ Technology’ through seminars, workshop. Major seminars on relevant issues
like ‘Globalisation :Its effect on Higher Education’, Conventionagainst
‘Saphoronisation of Education of Education’, ‘S&T : Indore Trends’
have been organized in regular internals. Since inception in 2002, seven such
programmes have been organized. Another important area where the
subcentre effectively contributed in all AIPTCS with wide range of participation
in various sub-congresses. Training programs on Pottery, Food Processing,
Low Cost Construction has also been arranged by subcentre. Te subcentre also
took a leading role in developing number of booklets on environment, US led
imperialist-war and its consequence, testing of water quality etc.
In recent past the subcentre took an active part in the sensitization
programmes related to ‘Ganga Action Plan Phase-II’, supported by KMDA.
The new Executive Committee formed in last AGM has involved no. of young
members including student members. In recent past, action have been initiated
on promoting awareness on ‘Green Building’, ‘Global Warming : Challenge <
in transport sector’, ‘Frontier areas of S&T’. At present Sri Anupam Deb
Sarkar is the Secretary and Dr. Samir Kr. Saha is the President.
